What Is a Fuel Surcharge?
- A Fuel Surcharge (FSC) is a charge applied to help cover the fuel costs associated with operating our trucks and service equipment.
- For mobile shredding, this includes the fuel used while driving to the customer’s location and while shredding documents on-site.
- For medical waste services, this includes the fuel required to collect and transport regulated medical waste safely and compliantly.
- For electronics recycling, this includes the fuel required to collect and transport electronics and IT assets for secure recycling and data destruction.
- The FSC helps account for changing fuel costs without requiring frequent increases to our standard service rates.
- The fuel surcharge is shown as a separate line item on the invoice for transparency.
How the Sliding Scale Works
Fuel prices are reviewed weekly. Our fuel surcharge is based on the Florida state average fuel prices reported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The applicable surcharge percentage is determined by the fuel-price range shown below. When fuel prices move into a lower range, the surcharge decreases. When prices move into a higher range, the surcharge increases.

Example
If the service subtotal is $100.00 and the applicable fuel surcharge is 10%, the fuel surcharge would be $10.00, making the total invoice amount $110.00.
